Citizen Survey
Public peace and safety is a primary function of government. At the Douglas County Sheriff's Office we take that responsibility very seriously. Our agency covers 1,821 square miles of land area, 152 miles of the Columbia River, 5 hydroelectric dams, 5 cities (4 of which rely on the Sheriff's Office for law enforcement services), and approximately 37,000 people. Uniformed Deputies are tasked with keeping the peace, conducting routine patrol, enforcing traffic laws, doing criminal investigations, conducting marine patrols (including search and rescue, recovery operations, and enforcement), tactical operations, and emergency management operations (such as managing evacuations during fires) just to name a few. Our office staff has a myriad of duties including: maintaining law enforcement and civil process records; entering data from reports and citations; processing and maintaining internal financial records; providing public disclosure documents; disseminating information to other police agencies; executing civil process and court orders; and providing services to our citizens such as fingerprinting and issuing concealed pistol permits. Our emergency management specialist plans for natural or man-made disasters and manages the grants which provide vital funding for those services. The staff at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office are professionals who work hard to provide our citizens with the best service possible. We would be interested in your comments.
