Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Saturday, April 20, 2024


All Douglas County residents — including those who live within cities and towns — are invited to dispose of household hazardous waste during a free collection event on Saturday, April 20, from 8 AM – 2 PM.

Items to Bring: 

Note: All containers must be 5 gallons or less!

  • Paint thinners, solvents (Take paint to a recycling center)
  • Batteries, antifreeze
  • Fuel
  • Contaminated motor oil, brake fluid
  • Cleaning products, spot removers
  • Weed and bug killers, insecticides
  • Lawn fertilizers
  • Swimming or hobby chemicals
  • Cylinders (propane or helium)
  • Fluorescent lamps/bulbs (please limit to 10)
  • Sharps (hypodermic needles)

What NOT to Bring:

  • Paint (latex/oil-based paints), stains, varnish (please take to a recycling center)
  • Agricultural or commercial waste
  • Medical waste
  • Explosives
  • Asbestos and dioxin bearing waste
  • Radioactive material
  • Poison A gases
  • Leaking containers
  • Demolition debris
  • Containers larger than 5 gallons

There is no charge for Douglas County residents to participate, but donations are welcome and appreciated. Proof of residency is required (bring something that shows your name and address on it like a driver’s license or utility bill).

There are no tickets for this event, it is first come, first served. We will have traffic control in place for lines and staff on site to help. Please don’t hesitate to flag down a staff member to ask a question and get help if you are waiting in line to drop off something small like batteries or lightbulbs.
