PRESS RELEASE
11/18/2025
On November 15, 2025, at approximately 10:42 AM, Douglas County Deputies were dispatched to a reported stabbing at the San Marcos Market, located at 1203 Columbia Avenue in Bridgeport, WA.
Initial reports indicated that a female suspect entered the market and confronted a female employee at the front counter. A physical altercation ensued, during which the employee was stabbed multiple times in the face. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
Deputies arrived and rendered aid to the victim, who was able to identify the suspect as Monica Marroquin Mercado, a 23-year-old resident of Bridgeport. It was determined that the suspect and victim were known to each other and had been involved in a prior verbal altercation days earlier. The victim was transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Hospital for treatment of injuries that appeared to be non-life-threatening.
Deputies responded to the suspect’s residence in the 1200 block of Fairview Avenue in Bridgeport. Although initial attempts to contact the suspect were unsuccessful, deputies believed she was inside the residence. Due to the nature of the incident, East Cascade SWAT was requested to assist in clearing the residence. The suspect was not located.
Deputies continued efforts to locate the suspect throughout the Bridgeport area without success. As the incident appeared to be isolated between the suspect and victim, there was no ongoing threat to public safety.
On November 18, 2025, at approximately 12:01 PM, the suspect voluntarily turned herself in at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Substation in Bridgeport. She was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Chelan County Regional Jail, where she was booked on charges of Assault in the First Degree and Malicious Mischief in the Second Degree.
Respectfully,
Undersheriff Tyler I. Caille
