North Central WA Fair honors Corporal Jeremy Mathena as 2025 First Responder of the Year

The North Central Washington Fair is proud to announce Corporal Jeremy Mathena of the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office as the recipient of the 2025 First Responder of the Year award. Now in its fifth year, this award recognizes the dedication, courage, and selfless service of those who protect and support our communities.

Born and raised in the Wenatchee Valley, Corporal Mathena has dedicated the past 30 years to serving Chelan County with integrity, teamwork, and excellence. He began his career with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office in 1995, working in the jail before transitioning to patrol and eventually earning the rank of Corporal in 2007. Coming from a multi-generational law enforcement family, service is quite literally in his blood.

Throughout his career, Corporal Mathena has been more than an officer — he has been a mentor, a leader, and a role model. Known for his high standards, he works tirelessly to mentor and elevate deputies, knowing that their impact on the community is direct and lasting. Deputies and colleagues describe him as the “epitome of law enforcement,” praising his meticulous investigations, unwavering work ethic, and the wisdom he continually shares with the younger generation of deputies.

“There are countless stories of Corporal Mathena’s dedication and care,” one deputy noted. “For me personally, he has not only shaped my evolution as a young deputy but has also positively impacted the type of person I am and want to be.”

Corporal Mathena continues to bring energy, ambition, and inspiration to his squad every night. His investment in his team and the mission of the Sheriff’s Office has left an impact that will last for generations.

“The First Responder of the Year Award is one of the most meaningful traditions at the North Central Washington Fair,” said Carolyn Morley, Fair Manager. “It’s an honor to celebrate heroes like Corporal Mathena, who remind us of the incredible sacrifices and service first responders provide our communities.”

This award is made possible with our friends at Wheatland Bank, who continue to sponsor this award and First Responder’s Day at the NCW Fair.

Corporal Mathena will be honored on August 22nd on the Friday Night Concert Stage at 7PM.

The North Central Washington Fair, Wheatland Bank and Douglas County extends our deepest gratitude to Corporal Mathena for his outstanding service and congratulates him on being named the 2025 First Responder of the Year.
