Fire-Prevention (1)

The annual burn ban has been extended by two weeks.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has extended the annual burn ban by two weeks, moving the end date from October 1 to October 15, 2025.

The extension, recommended by the County Fire Marshal and local Fire Chiefs, is intended to protect public health, safety, property, and the environment during continued hazardous conditions.

During the extended burn ban period, the following restrictions remain in effect:

  • Burning of yard debris, brush, and other combustible materials is prohibited (outside of defined exceptions).
  • Use of open flame devices, incinerators, or other outdoor combustion sources is restricted, except under limited conditions.
  • Exceptions may apply for small recreational fires, gas or propane grills, and activities specifically permitted by local fire district rules.
  • Any permitted fire must be attended at all times, properly controlled, and fully extinguished by dusk.
  • Some activities may require prior notification or a permit from the local fire department, as prescribed by ordinance or administrative rule.

This burn ban is established under Douglas County Code 8.12.101 and remains in effect through October 15, 2025.
