DOUGLAS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS APPOINTS INTERIM SHERIFF
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners announced today the appointment of Tyler Caille as the Interim Douglas County Sheriff, effective March 1, 2026.
Tyler Caille will serve the remainder of the unexpired term of Kevin Morris, who will retire on March 1, 2026. The current term will conclude on December 31, 2026. A regular election for the position of Douglas County Sheriff will be held in November 2026, with the elected candidate assuming office on January 1, 2027.
The appointment of Caille to this role was made to maintain consistency and create the least amount of disruption to the organization of the office. As the state legislature continues to take actions that erode the ability of the people to choose their duly elected Sheriff, most recently through the consideration of Senate Bill 5974, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners remains strongly committed to representing the constituents of Douglas County. They vehemently believe in the constitutional right of the citizens to elect their representation, which this decision enables by creating continuity until the election in November, at which time the people will vote.
Tyler Caille has been in Law Enforcement for over 20 years and currently serves as a Douglas County Undersheriff.
