The Douglas County Transportation Department announces the temporary closure of the Upper Pearl Hill Bridge, located approximately 5 miles outside of the City of Bridgeport, for a complete bridge replacement project.
The bridge experienced significant structural damage in the Cold Springs Canyon/Pearl Hill Fire on September 7, 2020, and weight restrictions have been in place since that time. The replacement project will improve safety for all motorists traveling along Pearl Hill Road and reinstate the ability for commercial farming vehicles to utilize the route.
Details of the Upper Pearl Hill Bridge Closure
- Closure Start Date: Monday, August 12, 2024
- Closure End Date: Estimated mid-November depending on construction.
- Detour Route: A marked detour route will be in place. Drivers are advised to follow posted signs and to plan for extra travel time during the bridge closure.
Bridge Safety Improvements
The new bridge will feature wider lanes and shoulders, enhancing safety and capacity. The approximately $3 million project is funded by a grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation Local Bridge Program.
This project consists of:
- Demolition of the existing bridge structure.
- Installation of prefabricated bridge sections. The new bridge will be just over 48-feet long with 11-foot lanes and 6-foot shoulders (34-feet in total width).
- Reconstruction of bridge approaches, guardrails, signage, and installation of stormwater collection and treatment facilities.
