Mandatory manual recount to begin Monday, August 26, 2024

The Office of the Secretary of State has directed all Washington State Counties to conduct a manual recount for the Office of Commissioner of Public Lands. Each county, including Douglas County, will conduct the recount individually. 

Douglas County Elections will convene beginning Monday August 26, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. to begin the recount process. It is anticipated the recount will take two days according to the following schedule:

  • Monday, August 26, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (or when completed): Elections staff will separate ballots into precincts.
  • Tuesday, August 27, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (or when completed): Elections staff will recount all ballots.

Pursuant to state administrative rule, all counties will certify their recount results on September 3, with the Secretary of State’s office certifying Statewide results on September 4.

The Douglas County Elections Division is in the Douglas County Courthouse at 213 S. Rainier Street in Waterville. The recount will take place at the Courthouse in the 1st floor Hearings Room. The recount is a public meeting and is open to observers.
