The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports from citizens about scam phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to represent the Sheriff’s Office. In some cases, the caller ID may even display the Sheriff’s Office phone number: 509-884-0941.

Callers have used false stories, such as claiming the person missed a federal court date, has an arrest warrant, or must provide personal information and/or payment immediately.

Please be advised: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will never contact individuals by phone to make these types of notifications or request payment. The Sheriff’s Office will also never ask for money over the phone.

Scammers can use phone apps and technology to disguise their phone number so it appears to come from a trusted source,  including the Sheriff’s Office.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert, avoid sharing personal information with unknown callers, and be cautious of any unexpected phone call demanding urgent action or payment.
