Douglas County has received a $75,000 planning grant from the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) to support development of the County’s first-ever Economic Development Plan - an important step in shaping a strong and sustainable future for the community.

The grant will fund creation of a five-year strategic roadmap designed to guide economic development efforts across Douglas County. As the first plan of its kind for the County, it will help identify opportunities to support existing industries, producers, and businesses while also encouraging new job creation, strengthening economic vitality, and enhancing quality of life for residents.

County leaders say the plan will provide a thoughtful framework for future growth-one that builds on Douglas County’s economic strengths while reflecting the values, character, and priorities of the community.

“This is Douglas County’s first economic development strategic plan, and our community has not previously been served in this way,” said Douglas County Economic Development Director Soo Ing-Moody. “We are grateful to CERB for recognizing the needs of our county and for being more than a funder-for being a true partner in this work.”

CERB provides funding and strategic support to help communities across Washington strengthen local economies through planning and public infrastructure investments that create opportunity, attract private investment, and support long-term resilience.

“Planning grants help communities turn promising ideas into real economic opportunities,” said Janea Stark, Executive Director of the Community Economic Revitalization Board. “This work gives local leaders the information they need to move projects forward and attract investment that can create jobs and strengthen the local economy.”

Douglas County officials view the grant as both a meaningful investment and a valuable opportunity to establish a long-term vision for economic success. The plan is expected to help the County better support local businesses, strengthen partnerships, and position Douglas County to respond strategically to future opportunities.

“This planning grant is an important investment in Douglas County’s future,” said Commissioner Dan Sutton, Chair of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. “Developing our first Economic Development Plan will help us identify opportunities to support local businesses, strengthen our economy, and create a clear path forward that benefits residents for years to come.”

The award reflects the Douglas County Board of Commissioners’ commitment to proactive, long-range planning that supports economic resilience, job growth, and a high quality of life, while preserving the qualities that make Douglas County unique.
